Ace Hotel New York

20 West 29th Street

When Ace Hotel opened its doors in 2009, the hotel’s cavernous and eclectically furnished lobby became the living room and mobile office for half of New York’s fashion, new-media and tech-industry residents. It still is today, but mix in scores of foreign travelers, Wall Street bankers in ties and bicycle messengers in old Converse shoes. The name behind Ace Hotel comes from a deck of cards— the Ace is both the high and low card—and that is the driving principle behind Ace Hotel: open to all.

Ace Hotel has become a beacon of cool, with its reputation reaching around the globe, as seen in the many languages spoken in the lobby. Rooms are minimally hip with “just enough luxury,” and feature cool amenities like Smeg refrigerators, record players and, in some rooms, Martin guitars. With Pendleton blankets, leather sofas, and industrial-tinged room fixtures, rooms at Ace Hotel New York feel like a New Yorker’s apartment. Nearly every room features original artwork, mostly by local artists.

Stumptown in the house!

The heart and soul of Ace Hotel New York is its 300+sqm lobby. Guests rush to check in, so they can head back to the lobby, log onto their favorite social media, and grab a coffee from the now legendary Stumptown Coffee (located off of the lobby).

Definitely not your average hotel room

Rooms at the Ace come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny bunk bed rooms to 70sqm corner suites—something for everyone. And guests are spoiled for choice with food options, including the Michelin-rated Breslin gastro pub, The John Dory Oyster Bar and No. 7 Sub Shop.

The eclectic and wonderful Opening Ceremony

Ace Hotel also doubles as an eclectic mall, with fun and interesting shopping in the adjoining Opening Ceremony and Project No. 8 retail shops. And if that’s not enough, next door is Rudy’s Barber Shop, an original brand created by the Ace Hotel founders—and a small outpost by New York’s own Le Labo, an upmarket amenity and craft perfumery.

Ace Hotel has new properties in London and Downtown Los Angeles, but the New York location remains the focal point for the boutique hotel group.
