London Hotels Calling

We could write pages about London hotels (and we probably will at some point), as the city has one of the best hotel markets on earth. And by that we mean there are some real quality hotels in the city, and it was very hard to keep our recommendations down to a manageable number. At the luxury end, you have the Rosewood in High Holborn, our London #1, or the stylish and sophisticated One Aldwych in Covent Garden. Next to One Aldwych (it’s literally across the street) is another hotel on The List—Me London, by the Spanish hotel group Melia.

Over in East London, you have some of the coolest—and also most affordable—hotels in the city: the hip and fun Ace Hotel Shoreditch, the cheap and cheerful Hoxton Hotel and the uber designer 17-room Boundary Hotel from legendary designer Sir Terence Conran. London hotel rates are through the roof, so many of the properties on our list offer the most bang for the buck (or pound): CitizenM, the Dutch concept hotel with identical 16sqm rooms and the lovely Great Northern Hotel in St. Pancras/King’s Cross, a recently renovated 91-room hotel steeped in history and boasting some of the most handsome rooms (for the price) in London.

In West London, we unfortunately did not find too many hotels that we’d put our recommendation behind. Yes, there are some truly outstanding hotels (45 Park Lane, the Mandarin Oriental, Browns, the Connaught), but at the prices they are charging, we have trouble reconciling the value quotient in these properties.
